Paintings from a world that never existed

Forty-two original canvases — dream architecture, quiet figures, restless creatures and luminous symbols. Nothing here was copied from life. All of it was imagined first.

I don't paint what I have seen. I paint the place the mind goes just before sleep — where a palace floats over a waterfall, where rain is warm, and where every animal is somebody.

Pinkal

Self-taught painter working in acrylic and oil. Each canvas begins with no reference and no photograph — only a feeling, a colour, and the patience to keep layering until the world holds still.

How a world gets built

  1. I

    The feeling first

No sketch, no photograph. A canvas starts with a single mood — a colour that will not leave, or a scene half-remembered from a dream.

  2. II

    Ground & shadow

The darkest values go down first. Everything luminous in the finished work is built on a layer nobody will ever see.

  3. III

    Layer upon layer

Colour is added in thin passes until the surface begins to glow from underneath rather than from the top.

  4. IV

    Knowing when to stop

The painting is finished when the imagined place holds still — when adding one more mark would only explain it.
